Overview of Supply Chain and Information Systems Overview of Supply Chain and Information SystemsSupply Chain and Information Systems (SC&IS) is a boundary-spanning field of study of supply chain networks, which organizations use to acquire, produce, and deliver goods and services all over the world. Our program integrates source (strategic procurement and supply management), make (manufacturing and service operations), deliver (demand fulfillment), and return (reverse logistics, recycle, and remanufacture) processes, along with information systems as the critical enabler of supply chain efficiencies and responsiveness. These core processes span traditional functional boundaries and encompass important activities such as information management; purchasing; inventory flow scheduling and control; logistics-production coordination; transportation systems operation and infrastructure; and customer service, order fulfillment, and distribution facilities management. The SC&IS major not only integrates programs in business logistics and operations management, but is the first of its kind to formally include the information systems component. SC&IS covers the latest theories, principles, concepts, insights, tools, and approaches for efficiently integrating business processes and enterprises in IT-enabled supply chains. You will develop knowledge, skills, and abilities to engage in the analysis, design, and management of supply chains, the sourcing and procurement of raw materials (source process), the manufacturing of a product (make process), and demand fulfillment (deliver process). You will also develop important skills in information processing, databases, system design and analysis, modeling methods and technologies, and financial analysis of supply chain decisions.
