Overview of Finance

This major provides students with an opportunity to study investment analysis, management of banks and other financial institutions, and financial management of corporations and other businesses. Course coverage includes business finance, security markets, commercial bank management, investment valuations, portfolio management, futures and options markets, and capital budgeting.

Finance is under Administrative Enrollment Control according to University Academic Administrative Policies and Procedures (Policy P-4). Please refer to Smeal College enrollment controls information if you are interested in entering the Finance major.

Major Field, Related and Supporting Sequence Requirements for Finance 2003 through 2005

  1. Finance Courses

    Take all of the following Finance courses (9 credits) – A grade of "C" or higher is required in FIN courses. FIN 305W (3) Financial Management of the Business Enterprise [Prerequisite: B A 301] FIN 406 (3) Security Analysis and Portfolio Management [Prerequisite: FIN 305W] FIN 408 (3) Financial Markets and Institutions [Prerequisite: B A 301]
  2. Additional Finance Courses

    Select six credits of additional Finance courses– A grade of "C" or higher is required in FIN courses.
