Higher Reidemeister torsion and the Waldhausen-Hatcher map.

Abstract: In joint work with Badzioch, Klein and Williams we showed that a version of Dwyer-Weiss-Williams higher torsion satisfies Igusa axioms. In this talk I will show that this torsion is non-trivial by relating it to the Waldhausen-Hatcher map. This non-triviality result is joint work with Bernard Badzioch.

We meet weekly on Thursday afternoons, alternating between Penn State Altoona and Penn State University Park. If you are interested in giving a talk in our seminar please contact one of the coordinators for the Fall 2008 semester: Wojtek Dorabiala and Aissa Wade.
