Lines of minima and Teichmuller geodesics.

Abstract: A pair of transverse measured foliations on a surface S defines a Teichmuller geodesic
and also a line of minima (defined by S. Kerckhoff). We compare these two paths in Teichmuller
space by analyzing the lengths of short curves.

We meet weekly on Thursday afternoons, with the third meeting of each month in Altoona. If you are interested in giving a talk in our seminar please contact one of the coordinators for the Spring 2006 semester: Aissa Wade and Wojciech Dorabiala.
