A different view of the algebraic K-theory of a model category.

Abstract: Given a category with cofibrations and weak equivalences, Waldhausen's $S_\bullet$-construction allows one to define algebraic K-theory. If the structure arises as a restriction of a Quillen model category structure, I will describe a different way to look at the $S_\bullet$-construction which we hope will allow a categorical description of the trace map in some case(s). This is work in progress with Wojtek Dorabiala, so the emphasis will be on the context of the techniques, rather than our (so far unsuccessful) attempts to recover the trace map.

We meet weekly on Thursday afternoons, with the third meeting of each month in Altoona. If you are interested in giving a talk in our seminar please contact one of the coordinators for the Spring 2006 semester: Aissa Wade and Wojciech Dorabiala.
