Views of K-homology

Abstract:In preparation for John Roe's talk next week I'll discuss some ways of defining K-homology. General arguments in algebraic topology allow one to construct a homology from a cohomology; applying this to K-theory yields one definition of K-homology. On the other hand several questions in analysis have led to a definition of K-homology using a generalized notion of elliptic operators. I'll try to provide a survey of these constructions and of the relation between them.
