Mathematics Colloquium
Fall 2005

Tuesday, September 27
Time: 3:00 PM, Location: 257 Hawthorn

Anna Mazzucato
Penn State University

Semigroups and applications to nonlinear Partial Differential Equations

Abstract: I will discuss how certain nonlinear parabolic equations can be solved by using semigroups and simple fixed-point arguments, especially when the initial data is irregular. As an example, I will consider semilinear heat equations and the Navier-Stokes equations describing incompressible, viscous fluids.

If you are interested in giving a talk, please contact Dr. Juan Gil, the Colloquium Coordinator for the Fall 2005 semester.
