Mark Johnson received his Ph.D. from the University of Washington (Seattle) in 1999. Before coming to Penn State Altoona in 2002, he was a Visiting Assistant Professor at Syracuse University and the University of Notre Dame. Prior to that, he acted as an undergraduate teaching assistant at Michigan State University, as well as a graduate teaching assistant at both Northwestern University and the University of Washington. His research interests lie in the areas of algebraic topology and category theory, particularly in generalized homotopy theory. His current applications of this generalized homotopy theory include the study of computer (autonomous agent) protocols, equivariant spaces, ex-spaces, enriched sheaves, Pi-algebras and C*-algebras.
