Math Degrees offered at Penn State Altoona

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics with a General Option
-
This degree program allows students to construct, within limits, their own
mathematics curricula. It accommodates students interested in a particular area
of application or students with a wide range of interests within mathematics.
The General Option requires at least one course at the 400-level in each of the
areas of analysis, algebra, and probability. An approved sequence of 12
credits is required in mathematics, in a related area, or in an area of application
outside of mathematics.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics with a Systems Analysis Option
-
This degree program focuses on mathematics that can be applied to problems in
business, economics, and other social sciences. The primary areas of mathematics
for this program are matrix theory, linear programming, and statistics. An approved
sequence of 12 credits is required in an area of application outside of mathematics.

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics
-
This degree program is for students whose interests outside mathematics are
oriented toward the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The requirements in
these areas are greater than those for the Bachelor of Science degree. Students
in this degree program are strongly encouraged to select a sequence of courses
in an area of application. These courses can be used as supporting courses. Areas
similar to those in the Systems Analysis or General Option can be used.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Science with a Mathematics Option

The Bachelor of Science Degree in Science with a Mathematics Option is a rigorous
but flexible degree program in the mathematical sciences. The degree program allows
students to explore a diverse set of topics in mathematics, computer science,
computer engineering, physics, and the life sciences. This program provides students
with a multidisciplinary approach to their study of the mathematical sciences which
allows great flexibility upon entering the job market.

Minor in Mathematics
- The Minor in Mathematics is available to students enrolled in any Penn State major.
