Math Degrees offered at Penn State Altoona
Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics with a General Option
This degree program allows students to construct, within limits, their own mathematics curricula. It accommodates students interested in a particular area of application or students with a wide range of interests within mathematics. The General Option requires at least one course at the 400-level in each of the areas of analysis, algebra, and probability. An approved sequence of 12 credits is required in mathematics, in a related area, or in an area of application outside of mathematics.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics with a Systems Analysis Option
This degree program focuses on mathematics that can be applied to problems in business, economics, and other social sciences. The primary areas of mathematics for this program are matrix theory, linear programming, and statistics. An approved sequence of 12 credits is required in an area of application outside of mathematics.

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics
This degree program is for students whose interests outside mathematics are oriented toward the arts, humanities, and social sciences. The requirements in these areas are greater than those for the Bachelor of Science degree. Students in this degree program are strongly encouraged to select a sequence of courses in an area of application. These courses can be used as supporting courses. Areas similar to those in the Systems Analysis or General Option can be used.

Bachelor of Science Degree in Science with a Mathematics Option

This program provides students with a multidisciplinary approach to their study of the mathematical sciences which allows great flexibility upon entering the job market.
