Penn State Altoona
Mathematics and Statistics

Welcome!

Mathematics and statistics play essential roles in all aspects of our society. Whether in insurance and finance, automobile and aircraft production, the software and internet industry, or biotechnology and biomedical research, mathematicians' abilities to reason abstractly, analyze underlying structures, and solve problems provide a marked competitive advantage.

Recognizing the vital role of the mathematical sciences in today's world, Penn State Altoona's math department strives to prepare students for a variety of professional careers involving mathematics. In addition to researchers in both pure and applied mathematics, our faculty includes several instructors with extensive work experience in industry. Moreover, our graduates have had considerable success securing jobs with leading corporations, as well as obtaining assistantships in highly respected graduate programs.

We offer three degree programs in the mathematical sciences: a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Mathematics, a Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics (a General Option and a Systems Analysis Option), and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Science with a Mathematics Option. A Mathematics Minor and a Mathematics Applications Minor are also available. These degrees are identical to those offered by the Eberly College of Science at University Park.
